CattleLedger field guide
What to include in a cattle treatment record
Treatment records should describe what the operator actually did and preserve the context required for responsible follow-up. They are documentation—not diagnosis, prescribing or a substitute for a veterinarian.
Animal and date
Record the stable animal tag, the treatment date and the person who entered the information. Avoid relying on a pen location or nickname as the only identity.
Product and amount
Enter the product name, amount and units exactly as used, plus the administration route when appropriate for your operation. Do not infer missing facts later.
Reason and notes
Use a short factual reason and add observed context in notes. Keep recommendations or clinical interpretation in the proper veterinary record rather than presenting them as app-generated guidance.
Review and export
Check for incomplete units, dates or animal tags before producing a report. Share the relevant record with the responsible people while keeping the complete ranch archive protected.
